Itinerary Details

Day 1: Reykjavík – The Gateway to Adventure
Begin your journey in Reykjavík, the northernmost capital in the world.

This charming city is rich in art, culture, and history, making it well worth exploring. Stroll along Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main shopping street, admire the striking Hallgrímskirkja Church, or visit the fascinating Reykjavík Art Museum.

Days 2 & 3: Sailing the Denmark Strait – Following Viking Routes
Set sail for Greenland, following the same route taken by Erik the Red, the first European to settle there.

As you cross the Denmark Strait, keep an eye on the horizon—you may spot whales along the way. During these two days at sea, take the opportunity to explore the ship’s facilities and enjoy engaging lectures from the Expedition Team on Arctic ecosystems, local communities, and sustainable exploration.

This is also the perfect time to book excursions, pick up a few words of Greenlandic, or simply relax. Savour delicious meals, listen to expert talks, and soak in the excitement as you approach Greenland, known locally as Kalaallit Nunaat.

Days 4 to 7: Exploring Southern Greenland – A True Expedition
For the next four days, embrace a full expedition mindset, navigating through a spectacular maze of fjords, islands, and channels.

Your itinerary is flexible, shaped by weather and ice conditions, ensuring that the most is made of every opportunity. With guidance from the experienced Captain and Expedition Team, the aim is to:

- Visit ancient Norse ruins, including Erik the Red’s farm at Brattahlíð.
- Sail through breathtaking fjords, where icebergs glisten under the Arctic sun.
- Explore Qaqortoq, a colourful settlement surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes.
- Experience the silence and vastness of Greenland’s untouched wilderness.

This region, shaped by glaciers over billions of years, was once home to Norse settlers who thrived here for four centuries before mysteriously disappearing. You’ll experience a rare sense of tranquility, far from the hustle of the modern world.

Days 8 to 10: Southwest Greenland – Wild and Remote
As you sail north along Greenland’s rugged southwest coast, you will venture into a land of towering mountains, turquoise fjords, and vast, ice-covered landscapes.

This region, known as Mellembygden, was once home to Norse settlers. Along the way, you’ll:

- Visit the ghost town of Ivittuut, once a major cryolite mining site, now home only to musk oxen.
- Explore fjords carved by ancient glaciers, offering dramatic views at every turn.
- Observe thriving Arctic wildlife, from seabirds and nesting colonies to whales feeding offshore.

Your flexible itinerary ensures that exploration opportunities are maximised, whether hiking, ice cruising, or scanning the landscape for wildlife.

Days 11 & 12: Deep into Nuuk Fjord – Nature and History Collide
Over the next two days, explore Nuuk Fjord (Nuup Kangerlua), one of the world’s most intricate fjord systems.

This area was home to the Western Settlement, where Norse explorers likely first encountered the Thule people, ancestors of modern-day Inuit communities. Along the fjord, you’ll:

- Visit ancient Norse ruins and Inuit settlements, both thriving and abandoned.
- Explore the icy headwaters of Nuup Kangerlua, shaped by massive glaciers.
- Hike, kayak, or take a wildlife-watching excursion, always guided by local conditions.

Despite its proximity to Nuuk, these remote settlements remained isolated for centuries, preserving a way of life that is deeply connected to the land and sea.

Day 13: Nuuk – Greenland’s Small but Mighty Capital
Your expedition ends in Nuuk, Greenland’s lively yet compact capital, home to fewer than 20,000 people.

Before your return flight, take time to:

- Visit the National Museum, where you can see the fascinating Qilakitsoq mummies.
- Explore Nuuk’s cafés, shops, and cultural sites, offering a glimpse into modern Greenlandic life.
- Reflect on the incredible journey you’ve just completed.

From Nuuk, you will fly back to Reykjavík, but the memories of your Arctic adventure will stay with you forever.

Day 14: Reykjavík – A Final Taste of Iceland
Wake up in Reykjavík, where your journey comes to an end.

If time permits, take one last opportunity to explore Iceland’s vibrant capital. However you choose to spend your final day, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories of an extraordinary expedition.
