Day 1: Fly Auckland to Sydney & embark Royal Princess
As your ship glides past Harbour Heads, you'll be greeted by Sydney's radiant skyline, often described by seafarers as "the world’s most beautiful harbour." Dominating the scene are two iconic landmarks: the Harbour Bridge and the distinctive, sail-like architecture of the Sydney Opera House. Sydney offers an abundance of activities, from exploring its bustling city center to relaxing on miles of scenic beaches or venturing into the majestic Blue Mountains.
Established in 1788 with the arrival of the "First Fleet" carrying 760 British convicts, Sydney has evolved into Australia’s largest and oldest city. Today, it stands as the busiest port in the South Pacific and is frequently voted as one of the region’s top travel destinations.
Days 2 & 3: At Sea
Enjoy two leisurely days at sea, taking advantage of the ship’s amenities while cruising.
Day 4: Airlie Beach
Airlie Beach serves as the gateway to the stunning Whitsunday Islands. This archipelago of 74 islands is renowned for its pristine coral reefs, calm turquoise waters, and idyllic beaches. It’s one of Australia’s top leisure destinations.
Interestingly, the Whitsundays were once mountain ranges. As sea levels rose at the end of the Ice Age, the Whitsunday Passage formed between the islands and the mainland, creating today’s breathtaking landscape.
Day 5: Yorkeys Knob (Cairns)
The charming town of Yorkeys Knob, with its striking headland, leads you to Cairns, a vibrant holiday hotspot. Cairns is famed for three of Australia’s natural wonders: the Great Barrier Reef, the lush Marlin Coast with 16 miles of beautiful beaches, and the ancient Daintree Rainforest.
Cairns’ tree-lined esplanade was once a key gateway to the North Queensland goldfields.
Day 6: Port Douglas
Port Douglas owes its early prosperity to the 1877 North Queensland Gold Rush, sparked by James Venture Mulligan’s discovery of gold. At its peak, the town hosted 12,000 residents and 27 hotels. However, as the gold dwindled, Port Douglas slipped into obscurity until a tourism boom in the 1980s brought it back to life.
Situated between the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, Port Douglas is an ideal base for adventurers seeking both reef and rainforest exploration. The town also boasts a range of luxurious resorts, from the Sheraton Mirage to the Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa.
*Note:* Port Douglas is an anchorage port, so passengers will transfer to shore via ship’s tender.
Day 7: Willis Island
Measuring just 1,600 feet in length and 490 feet in width, Willis Island is the only permanently inhabited island within the Coral Sea Islands Territory. However, it doesn’t have residential neighbouhoods or schools. Instead, it hosts a weather monitoring station operated by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, staffed by a small team of observers.
Surrounded by vibrant coral reefs, the island is home to countless seabirds, including Masked, Brown, and Red-footed Boobies, which can be heard almost continuously. It also serves as a crucial nesting ground for sea turtles.
*Note:* Willis Island is a scenic cruising destination. The ship will travel slowly past the island while an expert provides commentary on notable sights visible from onboard.
Day 8: At Sea
Another relaxing day at sea provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and reflect on your adventure.
Day 9: Brisbane
Once regarded as the "country cousin" among Australia’s cities, Brisbane has transformed into the country’s third-largest metropolis and a highly desirable place to live. Situated along the Brisbane River, this modern city features elegant sandstone buildings from the 19th century, a thriving cultural scene, and beautifully maintained parklands.
Brisbane also offers access to quintessential Australian experiences, from the theme parks of the Gold Coast to Queensland’s stunning beaches.
Day 10: At Sea
Enjoy your final full day at sea, relaxing as the ship returns to Sydney.
Day 11: Arrive Sydney and board your flight home to Auckland
Disembark in Sydney, concluding your unforgettable journey.
