Monday 27 October: Auckland to Cancun
Fly to Cancun via Houston. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival.

Tuesday 28 October: Cancun to Bacalar
Journey along the Riviera Maya to the awe-inspiring Maya ruins of Tulum, poised on a cliff with panoramic views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Proceed to your hotel in Bacalar, where tonight you'll meet your fellow travellers for a delicious welcome dinner.

Wednesday 29 October: Bacalar
This morning, delight in a boat excursion on the Bacalar Lagoon, celebrated for its captivating shades of blue. Afterward, discover the historic town center and visit the 17th-century Spanish fort.

Thursday 30 October: Bacalar to Chichen Itza
Travel to the scenic Sayab Kuxtal Cenote Centre for a brief nature walk or a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the cenote—a natural sinkhole nestled in limestone. Proceed to Chichen Itza and settle in at a hacienda established in 1523 for an overnight stay.

Friday 31 October: Chichen Itza to Merida
This morning, explore the renowned ruins of Chichen Itza amidst its jungle backdrop. As one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, delve into the fascinating history of this well-preserved Maya site, including a visit to the Sacred Cenote where ancient rituals and sacrifices were conducted. Later, journey onward to the charming colonial city of Merida.

Saturday 1 November: Merida
Founded over 450 years ago, Merida stands as the cultural and economic heart of the Yucatan Peninsula, boasting expansive squares, tree-lined avenues, and elegant European-style mansions. Today coincides with Mexico's "Day of the Dead" festival, a cherished tradition honoring departed loved ones. You will visit a vibrant cemetery adorned with marigolds, candles, and offerings, immersing yourself in this rich and authentic cultural experience.

Sunday 2 November: Merida to Campeche
Today, you will explore the UNESCO Heritage listed Maya ruins at Uxmal before heading to the delightful seaside city of Campeche

Monday 3 November: Campeche
Discover the captivating history of this ancient walled city as you delve into its Baroque architecture and 17th-century hilltop forts. Enjoy leisure time in the afternoon and evening to explore at your own pace.

Tuesday 4 November: Campeche to Palenque
Embark on a picturesque journey to the quaint town of Palizada, renowned for its brightly colored houses. Explore a superb local museum, enjoy a brief cruise along the jungle-lined river to observe wildlife, and witness traditional craftswomen skillfully crafting fine cotton blouses. Afterward, proceed to Palenque for an overnight stay.

Wednesday 5 November: Palenque to Villahermosa
Situated on a plateau 200 meters above the savannah, Palenque provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape. This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts temples adorned with beautifully painted murals, sculpted stone, and intricate stucco panels. After exploring Palenque, proceed to Villahermosa to tour its historic city center.

Thursday 6 November: Villahermosa to San Cristobal de las Casas
This morning visit the La Venta Museum and sculpture park which houses artefacts from the ancient Olmec civilization. Continue through lovely countryside to San Cristobal de las Casas.

Friday 7 November: San Cristobal de las Casas & local indigenous communities
Embark on a walking tour that includes visits to the cathedral with its opulent interior, the 16th-century Dominican church, and the vibrant handicraft markets of the Tzotzil people. Journey through the scenic highlands to explore the colourful indigenous village of San Juan Chamula and the nearby Zinacantan, renowned for its picturesque church and bustling markets. Return to San Cristobal in the evening, where you can enjoy leisure time.

Saturday 8 November: San Cristobal de las Casas to Tehuantepec
The highlight of today's journey is the spectacular Sumidero Canyon. Embark on a boat excursion through towering canyon walls, where you can spot river crocodiles and spider monkeys as you peacefully glide along. Afterward, you'll continue your journey to Tehuantepec.

Sunday 9 November: Tehuantepec to Mitla to Oaxaca
Explore the Zapotec archaeological site of Mitla, then proceed to Oaxaca, a true gem of Mexico, where you'll stay for three nights at a delightful 16th-century hotel filled with charm and atmosphere. This evening, savour a superb dinner accompanied by a captivating cultural show.

Monday 10 November: Oaxaca to Monte Alban to Oaxaca
Begin your day with a visit to the impressive 2,500-year-old ruins of Monte Alban, showcasing the remarkable achievements of Zapotec civilization and architecture. After lunch, embark on a walking tour through the historic center of Oaxaca, a UNESCO World Heritage listed city, to immerse yourself in its rich cultural heritage. Explore the Gold Museum, which features a stunning collection of pre-Columbian treasures.

Tuesday 11 November: Oaxaca 
For those interested, participate in a cooking class to master the preparation of local dishes. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. 

Wednesday 12 November: Oaxaca to Puebla
Today, explore the botanical cactus reserve within the Zapotitlan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve, lovingly maintained by local communities and home to over 80 native cactus species. Afterwards, journey onward to Puebla.

Thursday 13 November: Puebla to Cholula to Mexico City
Puebla is a historical gem in Mexico, renowned for its cathedral, artist's quarter, and bustling local market. Departing from Puebla, you will visit the largest pyramid in the world, the Great Pyramid of Cholula, towering twice the height of the Pyramid of Cheops in Cairo. Then, continue to Mexico City for a four-night stay in a charming hotel located in the heart of the historic center.

Friday 14 November: Mexico City
Mexico City was established by the Spanish on the ancient ruins of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. Explore the magnificent Cathedral and the Museum of Anthropology, which houses some of the most exquisite treasures from Aztec and Maya cultures. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.

Saturday 15 November: Mexico City
Start your day by exploring the local markets to purchase fresh ingredients for a cooking class, guided by an expert local chef. Later, enjoy a leisurely ride aboard a traditional trajinera along ancient canals, followed by a visit to Coyoacan, a charming neighbourhood known for its cobblestone streets, historic plazas, and bustling markets. Conclude with a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, home to an extensive collection of her artworks. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Sunday 16 November: Mexico City
This morning, explore the majestic pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan, established in the 1st century AD. In the evening, delight in a special farewell dinner.

Monday 17 November: Mexico City to Auckland
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Auckland via the USA
