In my early 20s, I found myself at a crossroads, uncertain about the direction I wanted to take in life. At the time, I was working at the Hyatt Kingsgate in Rotorua, where I discovered a love for organizing events and functions. I enjoyed the thrill of bringing people together and creating memorable experiences. But deep down, I knew I wanted more adventure, more exploration, and more of the world.
My passion for travel was ignited during a stint as a nanny in America. This experience opened my eyes to the wonders of travel. Which lead me to completing a Tourism and Travel course, and through this I got a position at Air New Zealand in Rotorua. That experience opened the door to my first role as a junior travel consultant—and that’s where my journey as a travel agent truly began.
After 15 years with Air New Zealand, they announced the closure of its regional offices. It was a difficult time, filled with uncertainty as many of us faced redundancy. But just when things seemed bleak, a new opportunity emerged. I was fortunate enough to be approached by Galaxy Travel to become part of their team. I didn’t hesitate and was proud to be one of the “Galaxy Gals.’
The experience working for a locally owned business has been very refreshing, always encouraged to put forward new ideas and suggestions and always feeling valued. It’s been amazing working with this team and the opportunities it’s given me.
Golf is a huge passion of mine, and I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to organise and escort golf tours to many different destinations. These have been amazing experiences, and I have just got back from Scotland (St Andrews), which was a trip of a lifetime… Here’s to many more.
