I have only ever dreamt of coming to this place, the concrete jungle where dreams are made of. Seriously!
After stepping out of JFK and hopping into a cab to our hotel, I was immediately struck by the chaos of the roads. Cars zoomed down the six-lane highways at speeds over 100 km/h, honking and weaving through traffic. I gripped the door handle, hoping for the best. But, hey, that’s just how it is around here…
After waking up on our first official day in the big city I was so excited to get out there and amongst it. The season was changing into Spring and as the days went on the weather slowly warmed up throughout the day, but I’m a cold-blooded creature at heart so all that walking around with the cool breeze was just perfect.
We were up nice and early about 8am, we took to the streets straight away for times square, which was in fact a 5min walk from our hotel! The morning was buzzing with activity, from the elegant ladies strolling their dogs to the typical young professionals on their way to work. It was truly the best time to explore, especially since many shops don’t open until 10am and stay open until midnight!
I have never been so mesmerized or taken back by anything ever in my life. Times Square was just incredible. People on every corner trying to sell you something, live performances in the middle of the chaos, thousands of people everywhere. So iconic!
After 2pm, the streets become a whirlwind of people! The subways are jam packed, squashed in like sardines, I mean what an experience! This place is absolutely amazing—definitely one of my favorite spots. It’s so nostalgic to go from seeing some of these places in movies and TV shows to actually experiencing them in person. It makes for a fantastic story when something comes on screen, and you can say, “I’ve been there!”.
I can’t wait to go back…..
