I started my working life sweeping up wool in the shearing shed, and grubbing Nodding thistles. I learned hard work creates a huge appetite and makes you sleepy! And I earned a little bit of money as well. I have also worked in a dairy, rolling ice cream, as a shop assistant in a pharmacy in the school holidays, as a waitress, and a shop assistant in a jewelry store in Inverness, as a Coat Check girl in the Steering Wheel Club (Stirling Moss) in Mayfair, London, in an Off License-Delicatessen in West Kensington, as an assistant manager at The Waikato River Lodge, as a Primary Teacher for two years, and the rest of my working time in TRAVEL.
Working in a pharmacy when I was sixteen, I learned how to serve customers, dust shelves, and to keep confidential information, confidential. The rest of the time, I acted the fool with the sunglasses and the bathing caps! And wrapped Christmas gifts. A friend asked me what I wanted to do when I left school. I said I didn’t know-but I did not want to be bored. She replied - no matter what you work at - once you have learned the ropes - it does become mundane and boring.
Well, I achieved my goal entering the world of travel, aged 24, with Galaxy Travel. I have never felt bored. Every day is different. Like Briarna said - our day is definitely like the box of chocolates. We never know what is coming. I can say I still love my every day. I get to talk (which I am very good at!) (and relieves my husband from having to listen) and get paid for it! I get paid to travel. Theres lots of long hours, and hard work behind the scenes, which doesn’t really show anywhere. It is mentally stimulating. It makes me hungry! I come to Galaxy, daily, and play TRAVEL, all day. It’s fun. The days go fast. We are always booking at least three months ahead, and last minute. The end of my working days is on the horizon. I never wanted to be the old lady in travel -but that has happened. I’ll keep playing a bit longer, to feed my travel habit, and I am sure the day will come, when it is time to stop.
