Stepping off the plane in Glasgow, a surge of exhilaration sweeps over me. I'm about to live out a dream, exploring the birthplace of golf!
Our adventure kicks off in Edinburgh, where we'll spend six incredible nights at the charming Waterloo Place Hotel. Nestled near Edinburgh Castle and the legendary Royal Mile, we're perfectly placed to dive into this vibrant city, complete with cosy local pubs and rich Scottish history around every corner. Speaking of pubs, we’re sitting in a small bar a few doors down from our hotel, and we bump into two friends from Rotorua, true story!
The first leg of our journey takes us to some of the finest golf courses in the World: North Berwick, Craigielaw, and Gullane. Each course is a gem, set in quaint Scottish towns and only a short drive from Edinburgh. No trip to Scotland is complete without a whisky tasting! Just below the entrance to Edinburgh Castle lies The Scotch Whisky Experience, a five-star attraction at the top of the Royal Mile. Here, you’ll find the once, world’s largest private collection of single malt whiskies—a must-see for any whisky lover.
Then we’re off to Inverness for a night to catch a glimpse of the mythical Loch Ness and wander through the majestic ruins of Urquhart Castle, with stone walls that whisper tales from the 13th and 16th centuries.
Speaking of castles, they say if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, but not in Scotland! Here, each castle has its own distinctive style, architecture, and fascinating history, making every visit a unique experience.
From there, it’s down to St Andrews, where golf history is alive in every stone and fairway. It is the birthplace of golf, and home to the oldest University in Scotland. We settle into the picturesque Kilconquhar Castle for five nights, just a quick 15-minute drive from St Andrews Golf Course. Here, we score an unforgettable lineup of courses: Carnoustie, the St Andrews Castle Course, the Jubilee Course, and the Eden Course.
St Andrews is like no place on earth! Six iconic courses line the town, bustling golf shops dot the streets, and nearly every corner boasts a cosy pub, perfect for unwinding with a cold pint after a day on the greens. This is golf paradise, wrapped in Scottish charm, an experience of a lifetime that I’ll never forget!
